Las Vegas

Sin City……The last place I would have ever thought I would want to live. It is actually a place I have been quoted to say that I never have the will to even visit. Yet this is the city that my fiancé and I will be venturing to the day after we walk across the stage in our cap and gowns and recieve a piece of paper that says our last four years of hard work has paid off.

I will be working for Fireproof ministries which run organizations such as XXXChurch.com, Heartsupport,

and Difted Design Studio. This is a chance that I could not pass up. This organization is one that I have great respect for and one that has played a big role in my life.

From May till August, I will be working for Fireproof on a trial basis. This is to see if the organization is a fit on both sides. After the four months, we will see if the full time position is something we both want to pursue. This is a very exctiting time in life. Lauren and I are very exctied for this oppurtunity. More to come as it happens. Thank you all for your support and prayers.

40 Days & 40 Nights

Hello my name is Jordy and I’m addicted to coffee.

This Lent season I will be giving up my favorite beverage, coffee. My addiction to this wonderful delicious drink began about four years ago. I was a freshman here at SWOSU and I needed something to keep me up at night to study. I began drinking this wonderful thing called coffee and soon I was never seen without it. If you have known me within the past four years you probably have carried a conversation with me as I gripped a silver stainless steel mug in my left hand (I’m left handed..) and slowly sipped while I waited my turn to speak.

This thing has become nothing more than a down right addiction. If I wait till past 11AM to have my daily dose I get a raging headache. This past Friday, while driving to work in OKC, I felt a pain in my chest after consuming 6 cups of coffee and a double shot latte that I made with my latte maker that Santa dropped off this last Christmas. When I sat there thinking, “Please Lord don’t let me have a heart attack while driving!” I knew it was time to make a change.

Coffee is something I need to be able to live without. This may seem silly but it’s true. I am using this Lent season to rid myself of a stupid addiction. Lent is for sacrificing for the sake of remembering the sacrifice that was given to us by Christ giving his life. I think if He can give up his life I can give up my caffeine.

The above picture is of my last cup of caffeine for the next 40 days. Coincidentally it was given to me free from my friend who works at Starbucks. Thanks Jake.

Here goes 40 days with no caffeine…. sorry if I seem gripey the next few weeks.

Canon AV-1

This was my favorite gift from Santa this year. This is my Dad’s Canon AV-1 that he purchased in 1979. This camera has taken pictures of everything and everyone in my family. This camera has captured my Grandma Acklin (who died months after my birth) it captured photos of my birth and my sisters births. It has documented my childhood. This camera means the world to my Dad and the fact that he wants me to have it means more to me than he will ever know.

I have wanted to develop as a photographer for a while now and this is the instrument that I will be learning on. This is my new camera. Lets see what I can do with this thing.

2009

Its a new year, a time for fresh starts, a time to re group and do things you didn’t think possible in the previous year. 2008 will be a tough one to top. Maybe topping 2008 isn’t my goal at all. Maybe I just want to build off of the year that was.

I believe in the word EPIC. I say it a lot, it makes my fiance laugh every time I say it but I really believe in this word. I find certain songs epic (example: Explosions in the Sky’s track The Birth and the Death of the Day) You can’t listen to that song and tell me it’s not epic. The definition of Epic: Grand in scale or character. 2008 was an epic year for me. I began dating the most beautiful woman alive, got on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me (she said yes!), I made friends, I lost friends, this was a year of change. This was the year I officially felt like an adult.

2008 is over and on to 09 we go. There are certain things I want to accomplish this year and as silly as it sounds this blog is one of them. (the other is to have a six pack by my wedding night…that’s 363 night of a lot of sit ups…) One thing I discovered in 08 is that I have really been suppressing my creativity. I say I love to write, but I don’t write. I say I would love to develop as a photographer, designer, and videographer but rarely is my camera out, rarely is Photoshop or Illustrator opened, and Final Cut scares the hell out of me. It’s time to quit talking about these things and time to start doing them. This blog will be the home of all those things. This will be my creative side. Here will be my writings, my photos (flickr), and if I ever have the courage maybe some print design…. (I have a tough time showing my work..It usually gets deleted within minutes..) hopefully some short videos that are in the works as well.

This is my creative start. I should have done this long ago but better late than never. This blog is awful really, if I were you I wouldn’t look at it. But luckly I don’t care if you do. I mean that nicely.. This site is for me. Its for me to grow. For me to explore my imagination.

So here we go 2009! We are off and rolling.

Overhaul

Summer is here.

Summer vacation is here and has been for about two weeks. It’s been nice to just relax and not feel like I have a thousand things to do. No homework, no real responsibilities except get up and go to work. It is a little strange though, I thought when summer arrived it would be a giant relief, some huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I thought all this spare time would be fantastic and having a chance to just be where I was when I was there would be a great feeling. The feeling isn’t what I thought it would be. During this once coveted free time all I can do is wish I was busy. Wish I had more to do. It’s weird. I read and I can’t fully focus on what I am reading because….. I don’t know, there is something on my mind and I have no idea what it is. It’s kind of an odd feeling.

The summer is off and rolling though and no matter what it is nice to have some time off and be around the people I love.

Here I go again.

For the past six to eight months I have been a total recluse. No blogging no e mails no…. nothing really. Alot of alone time and a lot of time to think on things I have never really given myself time to think about. My life has changed drastically from six months ago. At that time I was trying to do many things at once. Work two jobs, be a full time student, run a ministry, and somehow find time for family and friends. For a while I tried to be to much to too many. I put myself out there too all and was reliable to none.

Since figuring this out I have taken a break. I have taken a break from all the things that don’t really matter. The big meetings with big churches, the busy lifestyle, the constant phone calls, the constant e mails. All of these things have come to a hault. It’s been nice. I’ve read a few books, sat down and had coffee with friends, sat outside enjoying the breeze, even met an incredible lady who lets me call her my girlfriend. All these things, they matter.

So this site is me getting back in the swing of things. This is me coming out of my hole saying hello to you. Maybe we have never met…. Maybe we are friends. Maybe you care. Maybe you don’t. Either way I’m just going to write. It feels good to write again. So read if you like…..or don’t. Comment if you like….or don’t. Either way I’m gonna keep on writing.

I am currently re structuring Love is an Action into a SIMPLE t-shirt company that donates portions of the profits. I don’t know the details. They are coming along. I will be writing as updates come.

Also in my downtime I have been training for a marathon. I will be running one in late September of this fall. I have lost about 20 lbs so far.. my knees are killing me…. and I love it. Pics will def be on the way as the training progresses. Your going to want to see.

Who’s to say what the future will bring. But right now life is simple and I couldn’t be happier.
